Evolutionary biologist Jens Rolff is working with the Laboratory for Biofluid Mechanics on a device that helps predict the evolution of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. This is highlighted in a newspaper article in the Tagesspiegel by our cooperation partner about the joint project.
Diseases caused by bacteria such as gonorrhea and tuberculosis were long thought to have been conquered, but now they are returning. This is because more and more pathogens are developing resistance to antibiotics. Jens Rolff, professor of evolutionary biology at the Institute of Biology at Freie Universität Berlin, observes the enemy at work and compares different counterstrategies in experiments.
